Milford Sound was breathtaking from every angle. The flight’s sweeping views and the cruise’s quiet beauty made it unforgettable. Everything about the trip was smooth and easy. I'd highly recommend!
No trip to the South Island is complete without visiting the breathtakingly beautiful Milford Sound.
The fiord itself extends 16km inland from the Tasman Sea, with sheer granite cliffs extending up to 1700m above sea level. Like all the fiords and valleys in the Fiordland National Park, Milford was carved by five different glacier actions during the last great ice age 75,000 to 14,000 years ago. Some glaciers still remain, with the large blue cracking ice-falls providing a stark contrast to the rainforests below.
With between seven and eight metres of rainfall per year, Milford Sound is the wettest place in New Zealand. The lush rainforests cling to the cliff faces while seals and the occasional dolphins and penguins play in the waters below.
You’ll leave from Queenstown, taking off in a fixed-wing aircraft with a guaranteed window seat, soaring across three mountain ranges, magnificent alpine valleys, lakes and glaciers into Fiordland National Park, New Zealand’s largest National Park.
After arriving overhead Milford Sound, you will descend into the fjord to give you a close-up look at the features that make up this unique landscape before landing at Milford Sound Airport.
Your pilot will escort you to the boat terminal to join a 2-hour cruise of the sound. Your journey will take you out to the Tasman Sea, where you’ll encounter some of the wildlife that makes up this region. Expect to see seals, dolphins and penguins as you pass close to magnificent waterfalls and sheer granite cliffs. At the same time, your skipper provides a detailed and entertaining commentary of the region and its history.
Berthing back at the wharf, you’ll be met by your pilot and escorted back to your awaiting aircraft. After leaving Milford, you’ll climb out over more snow-capped mountains on a different flight path, returning over Lake Wakatipu and descending back into Queenstown.
Your pilot prides themselves on providing entertaining and knowledgeable commentary covering the entire flight. They love what they do and will go out of their way to make you feel special on your Milford Sound tour.

Milford Sound was breathtaking from every angle. The flight’s sweeping views and the cruise’s quiet beauty made it unforgettable. Everything about the trip was smooth and easy. I'd highly recommend!
This was my first time flying over a place like Milford Sound, and it was incredible to see the fjords from that perspective. The cruise was equally magical, with waterfalls and even a seal or two popping up. Arranging the tour was simple, and it’s something I’ll always recommend.
This tour gave me the best of both worlds: breathtaking aerial views on the flight in and an up-close experience of Milford Sound on the water. The booking process was seamless, and the whole day was well-organized. I walked away feeling like I’d just seen something truly extraordinary.
I wasn’t sure about taking a scenic flight, but wow, it was amazing. The views of the Southern Alps from the plane were unbeatable, and Milford Sound looked just as stunning from the air as it did on the water. The cruise was peaceful and gave us a closer look at the wildlife and cliffs. Sorting out the details when booking was super simple, and everything ran like clockwork. Truly unforgettable.
This tour was pure magic! Flying over the Southern Alps gave me the best views of New Zealand’s incredible landscape, and the cruise through Milford Sound was stunning—waterfalls, cliffs, and even some seals. Booking was smooth and the cashback was a great bonus for sure!

The Operator is able to fly approximately 70% of the days in the summer and winter, and 55% of the days in the spring and fall.
On the regular cruise departure, there is tea, coffee, and water and some food options available to purchase on board.
You are welcome to bring a packed lunch with you. If you arrive a few minutes before check-in, you can do this at the New World supermarket next to the office. (BYO alcohol is not allowed on board, this is available to purchase on the cruise).
If you're driving yourself out to the office, plan to be here 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time. There is plenty of parking in front of the building, and the drive from downtown Queenstown typically takes 20 minutes.
The office is located at Remarkables Park Shopping Centre. Head out of Queenstown towards the airport; instead of taking a left into the airport grounds, continue on Lucas Places to the next roundabout, turn left there and turn right into the New World carpark. Please park here and bring your car license plate when you check-in.
The office is located in the same carpark as New World by the entrance of the carpark. It's on the second floor of the building above the big barrel liquor company.
