  • 1 hour Scenic Flight of Milford Sound via Mt Aspiring
  • Fly over at least 5 major glaciers!
  • Fantastic aerial views of the Southern Alps, glaciers, waterfalls, and Milford Sound
  • Complimentary pick-up/drop-off service from your Queenstown CBD accommodation
  • Safety briefing

This is the only scenic flight company from Queenstown to showcase Mt Aspiring and Fiordland National Park’s largest glaciers. These include Rob Roy, Bonar, Jura, Volta, Dart, Olivine, and Donne glaciers among many others, and of course, Milford Sound. Each tour is guaranteed to see at least five major glaciers.

After check-in, your pilot will provide a thorough pre-flight briefing on the route and scenic highlights to look out for. Departing from Queenstown airport at 8.00 am, the flight path tracks north over the world-famous Shotover Canyon, passing Lake Lochnagar to Mt Aspiring (tallest peak outside of the Mt Cook region at 10,000ft/3030m). New Zealand has 7 glaciers that span greater than 10 hectares, and the only one in the Southern Lakes happens to reside on the northern side of Mt Aspiring, called the Volta Glacier. This is a highlight before turning west toward Milford Sound.

On the next sector, the flight will soar down ‘glacier alley’ with the Olivine Ice Plateau, a unique glacial amphitheater. Further west toward Milford Sound, the flight will link with the existing Milford flight path, over Mt Tutoko and the Donne and Age Glaciers, before capturing the Fiord of Milford, followed by a return flight back to Queenstown viewing the Arthur Valley and Lake Te Anau. This 1-hour scenic flight begins and ends in Queenstown, taking in the incredible scenery of the Southern Alps, Fiordland National Park, Glaciers, and Milford Sound.

  • Minimum numbers of 2 adults apply for this trip to commence. The tour reserves the right to modify this option in certain circumstances
  • Because of the weather-dependent nature of flying in the Southern Alps to Milford Sound, we recommend booking in for your first available day in Queenstown. So that, should the weather be unfavorable for flying on the first day, you will have maximum flexibility to roll your excursion on to a following fine weather day.

Two of the fleet’s five aircraft have all window seats. The remaining three aircraft have double ‘bench’ seats, in which instance if the aircraft is full, then 3 passengers will be in the aisle row. These seats are ideal for couples that wish to sit together and have proven beneficial for anxious flyers.

Definitely a camera, a fully charged battery, and lots of free memory space! The temperature can be quite different in Milford Sound to Queenstown, so a jacket for the cruise boat is worth taking, as well as some comfortable walking shoes and some insect repellant.
