We had a wonderful group of people in our tour! It was a beautiful day
Join in on a 2 hr guided paddleboard trip on one of New Zealand's most scenic venues! Lake Mapourika's calm, reflective waters and picturesque backdrop make for one of the best spots to hop on a SUP.
You don't need any experience to join this adventure, as your friendly guide will provide detailed instruction if you're new to the sport. Then, you'll head out onto the calm, flat waters to discover Jurassic rainforest and sheltered bays while learning about the region, the glaciers and the kiwi conservation of the area.
The lake itself sits to the north of the Franz Josef township and is the largest in the Westland Tai Poutini National Park. It's a kettle lake formed by the retreating glacier, which left behind a massive block of ice 14,000 years ago. Now, it's home to an abundance of birdlife, including the rare crested grebe, mallard duck, and black swans.
This is a great way to enjoy some gentle exercise, connect with nature, and admire the views of one of New Zealand's most beautiful destinations.

The views were amazing. Highly recommend!
I had so much fun SUPing. My instructor was also kind and cool to be with.
Beautiful and relaxing. Just the right amount of time.
Guide was informative and knowledgeable! Great experience with my daughter! We would definitely come back.
This was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had!
Like true west coasters – we get out there rain or shine! Rain is the main ingredient in our beautiful temperate rainforest. Lake Mapourika often remains dry while it is raining in town due to being a greater distance from the Southern Alps. We provide full wet weather gear (jackets and pants) to keep you warm and dry.
Bring a snack, a water bottle, camera (if you want your own photos as well as our FREE photos), sunglasses and sunscreen. We recommend no denim, just comfortable pants and footwear.
On SUP tours please pack a towel and/or bring your swimwear.
We provide: Photos, dry bags, jackets/wet weather gear, sunscreen and insect repellent
