Welcome to New Zealand's first gin tour. In the 1980's it was wine, then craft beer and now the gin-dustry is making its mark in Central Otago.
The climate and alpine conditions are perfect for developing pure, smooth gins – let your guide take you on a journey into the world of gin. See how it is distilled, learn about gin, taste gin, graze and take in the best scenery and sightseeing all bundled into one unique and finely curated experience.
This 6-hour tour departs Queenstown and you will be picked up in a premium Mercedes vehicle by your guide and transported to the first location, the Cardrona Distillery.
This beautiful distillery is located a few minutes past the famous Cardrona Pub and opposite the entrance to the Cardrona ski field. The staff will take you through a full sensory, tactile tour of the facilities, including gin & spirits tastings in the private tasting room.
Your next stop is an easy drive down the Crown Range into Arrowtown, to visit a wonderful cellar door called 'The Winery'. Here you will have a self-guided experience, using the knowledge you have just gained to select your gin-tasting paddle along with shared grazing boards. There will be time here for you to buy an additional drink, whether that be gin, wine, cocktail, beer or other. This location has the most extensive range of wines in Queenstown and is a delight to walk through and explore.
The last stop is a 15-minute journey to Arthurs Point, where you'll visit the Gin Garden by Broken Heart Spirits. Here you will be guided through a range of local Broken Heart gins in a private room with traditional German Tarte Flambee to share.
This Queenstown gin tour has been designed to be a nice mix of education, sightseeing and fun. It is perfect for couples and groups, and there is some flexibility to try other spirits such as vodka, whiskey and, of course, wines throughout if you want to balance or pace your gin intake.

You can wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, but The Operator does recommend smart casual attire. Also, make sure to bring sun protection for those sunny days when you might want to enjoy outdoor tastings.
As this is an afternoon tour, The Operator suggests having lunch before departure. You’ll be provided with a sharing platter and grazing food at a couple of locations.
Well, if that’s what you want, then yes! All locations will have tonic available to mix if you don’t think you can hack the straight gin all day, giving you the choice of how strong you want your drink.
Yes! All gin purchased is placed in the boot of the vehicle and passed over to you on completion of the tour so you can enjoy it after or later on your holiday.
The Operator picks up from the main bus stop routes in Queenstown town centre and along Frankton Road. When booking, type in your accommodation, and it will suggest the closest bus stop. If it doesn’t come up, just check in with them, and they’ll let you know where is closest for you!
